Connecticut Black Expo to Return after 9-Year Pause
October 29-30, 2022 | Floyd Little Athletic Center | New Haven, CT
New Haven, CT – The Connecticut Black Expo, which historically gathered thousands of people for decades, will host its first event in 9 years this October. This year’s Expo, themed “Action Driving Black Excellence,” will uplift and empower the Black community and highlight Black businesses. The weekend event will showcase national and local musicians and artists. There will also be numerous appearances from local, state, federal officials, as well as other public figures. “The CT Black Expo is needed now more than ever,” said Torrance Flowers, Chief Executive Officer of the 2022 Connecticut Black Expo. “The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic amplified inequities plaguing the Black community - insurmountable racial, health, economic, and social injustices. We’ve remained resilient, and now it’s time to show off.” In 1972, The Black Coalition of Greater New Haven first launched the Connecticut Black Expo at the New Haven Armory. The last Expo happened in 2013 at the Floyd Little Athletic Center. Throughout the years, the Connecticut Black Expo has remained a cultural and community hub for the state’s Black and Brown population. “The Connecticut Black Expo is an all-too-rare opportunity for the Black community, and our allies, to come together to celebrate ourselves and each other,” said Jesse Phillips, Chief Operating Officer of the 2022 Connecticut Black Expo. “The past few years have been really hard for everybody. The Expo will give us the chance to showcase our community’s resilience, while allowing us to empower, enrich and educate our brothers, sisters and nonbinary friends and neighbors.” Sponsorships and vendor booths are available for this event.
