Connecticut Voices for Children Releases Annual State of Early Childhood Report, Responds to Blue Ribbon Panel on Child Care

To detail and discuss the finding and recommendations of the report, CT Voices will be hosting a press call, today Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 10:30 am.

The State of Early Childhood is an annual report published by CT Voices. This report is focused on 2023 and discusses the benefits of early care and education (ECE) to children, parents, providers, and the economy. It reviews annual data on Connecticut’s ECE availability, children served, and the systems and dollars that support State-funded care. It includes updated economic analyses from CT Voices 2020 and 2021 State of Early Childhood care reports regarding the cost of providing care in a Family Child Care (FCC) setting and a Child Care Center (CCC) setting as well as builds upon the 2022 State of Early Childhood research, which examined barriers to accessing ECE for immigrant and refugee families, by exploring another group of families who struggle to access equitable early care and education: families of children with special needs.

This report is also different in that it offers policy recommendations in relation to the Blue Ribbon Panel on Child Care’s recommendations.

CT Voices’ aim in all of their State of Early Childhood reports is to advance the creation of an ECE system that provides high-quality care that is universally affordable and accessible to all families, especially those with the least access to care under today’s system.
