Jordyn Wilson Returns to Connecticut Justice Alliance as Director of Community Engagement
MILFORD, CT (September 11, 2024) – The Connecticut Justice Alliance (CTJA) announces the return of Jordyn Wilson as director of community engagement.
"We are excited to welcome Jordyn back to the Connecticut Justice Alliance," said Christina Quaranta, executive director of CTJA. "Her dedication, experience, and deep connection to the communities we work with make her an invaluable asset as we continue our work to end youth criminalization."
Wilson’s career has focused on building opportunity-rich communities where all families and youth have the support they need to thrive. She is passionate about equitable access to resources and services and works to dismantle the systems that funnel youth into the legal system.
For the past two years, Wilson served as a youth justice campaign associate at The Sentencing Project. Before that, she honed her advocacy skills at CTJA, first as a justice advisor and later as a community connections associate, where she directly supervised the justice advisors and built connections both in Connecticut and nationally.
"I'm excited to return to the Connecticut Justice Alliance and continue the work so close to my heart,” Wilson said. “By centering the voices of those most impacted by the legal system, we can drive change that builds communities and ensures that all youth and families have the support they need to thrive. I'm eager to collaborate with our partners and communities to create a more just and equitable future for all."
Wilson said she is most excited about working directly with young people and community members to organize and mobilize for change. One way this will be done is through Vision Sessions—roundtable conversations with directly impacted youth, families, and communities. She said these discussions are incredibly impactful and a tool to identify root causes of behavior, and then advocate for solutions to reform or replace harmful systems.
This fall, she will lead CTJA’s Justice and Safety for All Vision Session Tour alongside the nine-member team of justice advisors.
In addition to her work with CTJA, Wilson enjoys spending time with family and friends. One of the most important people in her life is her 2-year-old son. Being a mother and watching her son grow is one of the reasons she has become such a fierce advocate for the abolition of systems that harm children.
Wilson serves as an advisory board member of the Youth First Justice Collaborative, which works to close youth prisons. She has been an Emerging Leaders Committee member with the Coalition for Juvenile Justice and a Youth Leaders Network member with Youth First.
Wilson holds a bachelor’s degree in justice and law administration from Western Connecticut State University. She plans to pursue a master’s degree in the months to come.
ABOUT THE CONNECTICUT JUSTICE ALLIANCE
The Connecticut Justice Alliance (CTJA) is a youth/adult partnership working to end the criminalization of youth. The Alliance works to disrupt and dismantle the pathways that funnel children and youth into the juvenile justice system by using organizing, advocacy, and policy tools to protect the rights, futures, and well-being of potentially, currently, and formerly incarcerated youth, while also ensuring youth who are detained, incarcerated, and involved in the courts and legal systems receive safe, fair, and dignified treatment. The organization serves at-risk youth and adults experiencing the impact of poverty, trauma, mental health, and addiction in the greater Bridgeport area.
CTJA was formerly known as the Connecticut Juvenile Justice Alliance.
